Inglewood

this project, located near alexandria, louisiana, began with the relocation of a historic town market transported from bunkie, louisiana to the inglewood site where it sits today. once relocated and restored, rural builders local to the area began construction on a contemporary addition to contain private bedrooms in exchange for larger living areas in the original cottage. Upon completion of this extension, the next phase of construction, a conditioned poolhouse, was initiated.

The addition’s form responds to the simple shed forms ubiquitous to the area, without distracting from the elegant gabled forms of the original home. The materials wrapping the dwelling were carefully selected to commemorate both the immediate site and surrounding region. The sheet metal siding of this home reflects the material language common to industries of rural louisisna, while its organic pine cladding honors the natural landscape of the surrounding site.
