This project was designed as a renovation and expansion of an existing home in the Bywater neighborhood, one of the districts most carefully controlled by the New Orleans Historic District and Landmarks Commission. The clients’ goal was to revitalize the existing structure as a rental that would provide additional long-term housing for the neighborhood and to build an attached, two-story rear unit for their use that would accommodate their travel trailer beneath an upper-level deck. While the project has not been fully realized, it did receive approval from the HDLC and laid the groundwork for the strategy realized with the Chartres Street project.
